Fann þessa ferðasögu frá í vetur frá einhverjum sem bjó hér um tíma.   Hann lagði það á sig að fara á hjólinu að mér sýnist í Desember yfir landið til að komast í Norænu.

I lived in Iceland for half a year, and wanted to bring a motorcycle with me. I had some studded winter tires sent to me when i got there in the summer, and a few days before christmas it was time to make my way to the port on the other side of the country so that i could get back to mainland europe. Thus, i packed all my 70 kilograms of stuff (had a huge, 30kg hiking backpack as well that isn’t shown in the pictures), jumped on the bike and started riding.

The first day was 636 kilometers and around 13 hours from Reykjavik to Egilsstaðir close to the port. This day, i had the incredible luck of 15+ m/s winds, often from the side the entire way. Temperatures were between -10 and 0, and while the first half of the day had no snowfall, the second half turned into a horrible snowstorm. Towards the end of the evening, the road had frozen sleet at the bottom, with around 10 centimeters of snow on top, limiting my speed to around 20 km/h. Besides, visibility was around 5-10 meters, so that limited speed as well.

The second day, i only had to make my way to the port before the afternoon departure. This trip was a short 27 kilometers from Egilsstaðir to Seyðisfjordur, which would normally take around 25 minutes. Due to road conditions, and the fact that the entire trip was along a mountain pass with serpentine roads at both ends, this trip ended up taking over two hours, which tells a story about my average speed, idling along in first gear.

After three stormy days at sea, i ended up in denmark around noon. From there, i made it all the way to stockholm, sweden, from hirtshals, denmark, arriving a few hours before my departure around 6 or 7 the next morning.

I rode 662 kilometers through iceland in 15 hours last winter from motorcycles
